We're looking for an AI Engineer who can own distinct workstreams from conception to production in parallel with our existing engineering resources. Not just contribute—own. You'll be a technical decision-maker, architect, implementer, and often the only person working on critical AI capabilities that define the core of our product.
This isn't a role where you'll hand off specs to junior engineers or delegate implementation. You'll research papers at 9am, write production code at 11am, debug infrastructure at 2pm, and present to product owners at 4pm. If you thrive in ambiguity, ship fast, and get energized by building, this is your role.
End-to-end AI workstreams: Design, implement, and deploy complete AI systems—from model selection and fine-tuning to API design, monitoring, and iteration. You'll make architecture decisions, write the code, and ensure it scales.
Production ML infrastructure: Build robust training pipelines, custom evaluation frameworks, and deployment systems. You'll own the full ML stack—data prep, experimentation, serving, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Model optimization & iteration: Rapidly experiment with different approaches (fine-tuning, RAG, agents, custom architectures), evaluate rigorously, and iterate based on real user and SME feedback. Speed and pragmatism over perfection.
Technical foundation & architecture: Make critical decisions about model providers, vector databases, evaluation frameworks, and tooling for your workstreams. Your choices will become the foundation others build on.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work directly with founders, designers, other builders, subject matter experts, and early customers. Translate business needs into technical solutions, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and help shape product direction.
Research-to-production translation: Stay current with AI research (new model releases, techniques, papers), quickly assess relevance, and implement promising approaches in production. You'll be a bridge between cutting-edge research and shipped product.
8+ years of hands-on ML/AI engineering experience with proven track record of shipping production ML systems
Deep expertise in modern LLMs: Practical experience with GPT, Claude, Llama, etc. You've built real applications and agent harnesses using these models, understand their limitations, and know how to manage context and when to fine-tune vs. prompt engineer vs. build custom architectures.
Experience with specialized ML domains: RAG systems, agentic workflows, multi-modal models, reinforcement learning, or domain-specific fine-tuning
Strong software engineering fundamentals: You write clean, maintainable Python code. You understand system design, APIs, databases, and can debug production issues.
Project ownership experience: You've taken workstreams from 0→1 with minimal guidance. You're comfortable with ambiguity, can scope work effectively, and know when to ask for help vs. figure it out.
Production ML ops and AI ops experience: You've dealt with model serving, monitoring, evaluation pipelines, data quality issues, and the messy reality of ML/AI in production. Experience with error analysis tooling and eval frameworks.
Pragmatic builder mentality: You ship MVPs, measure results, and iterate rapidly. You balance technical excellence with speed to market. You know when to build vs. buy, when to optimize vs. ship.
Startup DNA: You've worked in early-stage environments (or want to). You thrive in chaos, switch hats as required, and get energized by building something from nothing. You don't need perfect processes or org charts to be productive.
